Community Dining

Here at Senior Services, our mission statement is “Improving the quality of life for people as they age.” Our Community Dining service – part of our Senior Nutrition Program – is a vital part of our efforts toward fulfilling that mission. Operating at seven sites in Thurston and Mason Counties (Olympia, Lacey, Yelm, Tenino, Rochester, Shelton, and Belfair), Community Dining offers both nutritionally-balanced meals and a social setting where seniors can stay connected with each other and their communities.

To give a sense of scale to the need that Community Dining is trying to meet, the program served 39,000 meals to 1,800 clients in Thurston and Mason Counties in 2015! This would not have been possible without the hard work of around 100 volunteers, who prepare and serve meals, set up and clean up dining rooms, record and enter data for the program, and assist diners.

A big thank-you to all of our Community Dining volunteers for making this service possible and helping keep seniors vital and independent in our communities! We couldn’t offer this benefit to our local seniors without your efforts.

If you would like to join the dedicated team of Community Dining volunteers, we would certainly be glad to hear from you! Our Olympia site is in particular need of extra help with setup and cleanup of the lunchroom on weekdays; please see the Open Volunteer Positions section of this newsletter for more details!

Thank you again to all of our Nutrition volunteers!
