Observations on Birthdays

Today’s my birthday.   That’s not unusual.  Everyone alive (or dead for that matter) has birthdays.  Unless you’re an orphan.  Some babies adopted from Asia often don’t have known birthdays.   Their birthdays are determined by their adoptive parents.   In some cases, they change their birthdates when they get older. Quick Bits

The City of Lacey has hired a new Parks and Recreation Director.  Her name is Jennifer Burbidge.  She will start on October 17.  Burbridge will replace former director Lori Flemm who retired from that job in July.   Most recently, Burbidge was the Southwest Quadrant Supervisor for Metro Parks in Tacoma.  In her new job, she will manage a department of 1,200 acres of park land, with a budget of $2.6 million dollars.  She will also be responsible for the Lacey Community Center, the Lacey … [Read more...]

Lacey History – This Week 2000

Lacey History This Week 2000 Customer service at the Lacey Post Office was on the minds of many people this week in 2000.   The Lacey Chamber of Commerce has asked for better service and quicker response time.   It has threatened to picket the post office if service doesn’t improve.  Recently, due to growth, the postal service added two new ZIP Codes to Lacey – 98513 and 98516. New Medic One Director Hired

Kurt Hardin, has been hired as the new Thurston County Emergency Services Director to replace Steve Romines who retired in May of this year. His job is to oversee emergency operations in the county including the Medic One program. Hardin will begin work on September 26. He previously worked for the Washington Emergency Management Division at Camp Murray, a job he held since 2005. He managed small to large disaster response and recovery operations in the state. … [Read more...]

Lacey History – This Week 1974

Lacey History – This Week 1974 Some 12,000 people attended the Lacey International Music, Arts and Dance Festival, which ended its three-day run.  To fund the event, some 10,700 tickets were sold.  Given away as first prize was a new Ford Mustang, while second prize was a trip to Las Vegas.
